Hosn Obe is the free online version of the classic card game Thirty One — known across the world as 31, Blitz, Scat or Cadillac, and in German-speaking regions as Schwimmen, Knack or Schnauz. Each player gets three cards and three lives (matchsticks). The goal: get as close to 31 points as possible using cards of the same suit — whoever holds the lowest score at the end of the round loses a life, and the last player standing wins. Very easy to learn yet tactically deep, with short, fast-paced rounds. Play against the computer (offline/training) or online against thousands of real opponents — in public rooms, private rooms with friends, with in-app chat, emojis, scheduled tournaments and daily/weekly/monthly leaderboards. For 2 to 4 players, played with a 32-card deck.

How to play

  1. Setup: 2–4 players, 32-card deck (7, 8, 9, 10, Jack, Queen, King, Ace in four suits). Each player gets 3 cards and 3 lives (matchsticks). Three cards lie face-up in the middle (the depot).
  2. Goal: Keep your lives and be the last player standing. Within a round, avoid being the player with the lowest score.
  3. Scoring (only same suit counts):
  4. Only cards of the same suit (hearts, diamonds, spades, clubs) are added together.
  5. Number cards: face value (7–10).
  6. 10s & face cards (Jack, Queen, King): 10 points each.
  7. Ace: 11 points.
  8. Highest regular hand: 31 (e.g. Ace + a ten-value card of the same suit).
  9. Special — three of a kind (e.g. three 8s, any suits): worth 30.5 points.
  10. Blitz / Fire — three Aces: the strongest hand (value 33 internally) — ends the round instantly and makes every other player lose a life.
  11. Your turn — choose one:
  12. ♠️ Swap one card with a card in the middle.
  13. ♥️ Swap all three of your cards with the three middle cards.
  14. ♣️ Pass if you like your hand.
  15. ♦️ Knock to start the final round once you believe you won't have the lowest hand.
  16. First player's special move: put your hand in the middle and draw a fresh hand from the deck, or place three new cards from the deck into the middle.
  17. Ending the round:
  18. If a player reaches 31 points, the round ends immediately.
  19. Or a player knocks — every other player then gets exactly one more turn before scores are revealed.
  20. The player with the lowest score loses a life (matchstick).
  21. Lose all lives and you're out; the last player remaining wins the game.

Frequently asked questions

Is Thirty One / Hosn Obe free?

Yes. It's free-to-play, supported by ads with optional in-app purchases/credits.

Are there ads, and can I remove them?

Yes, the free game shows ads. Ad-free options exist, including via the daily lucky wheel ("ad-free for a day"), and a purchasable ad-free option (30 days or 1 year).

Can I play offline / solo against the computer?

Yes, there's a training/solo mode against AI opponents.

Can I play online with friends?

Yes — create private rooms for friends, or join public rooms with thousands of other players.

What are credits and what do I need them for?

Credits are the in-game currency; rooms have different stakes (e.g. 5 to 2500 credits). Win to earn credits; entering/playing rooms costs the stake. Get credits via the lucky wheel, tournaments and in-app purchases.

I won but didn't receive credits / my stake was deducted but I couldn't play — what now?

These are the most common support issues, usually caused by connection drops that leave a game stuck. Contact in-app support (Helpshift) with the date/time or game ID and support can refund credits.

What are the exact rules? / Can you knock in the first round?

See "How to play" above. Knocking is allowed whenever it's your turn, including early in a round.

How do I change my card deck / name, or restore my old account?

Change deck and profile in settings; use in-app support for name changes and account recovery.

How do the online rooms and lives work?

Online, you stake credits to enter one of six rooms (5, 20, 50, 250, 1000 or 2500 credits). Depending on the room you start with one, two or three lives (matchsticks) — higher-stake rooms give more lives, so those games last longer.

How do I swap all three cards at once?

Tap one card and drag it over the other two to swap your whole hand at once. The Instructions button in the Help menu shows an animation of the move.

Are there tournaments?

Yes — daily, weekly and monthly tournaments run regularly, plus special events. Some have a small credit entry fee and some are free, and each tournament lets you play a set number of games during its runtime.
